To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down,
And a time to build up. Ecclesiastes 3.1-3.
This week we want to study this important concepts of times and seasons. The word of God attached much emphasis to times and seasons but many of us have no clue what it is all about and how it plays out in our lives. People of old who walked with God attached much importance to the concept of times and seasons. There are many accounts in the Bible of events tied to this concept.
We need to know if they are both the same or distinct in nature and operation. We also need to know how they play out in our lives. Understanding times and season will help us to be strategic in prayer and in our labour. Our God works by time and season, The worst possible thing that you can lose is not money, or people…. IT’S TIME!
Solomon said “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose.” These are deep words. Every thing means every thing. And a set time is allocated to every purpose in life. We need to understand this deep dynamic of life and maximise the use of it.
Of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command;” 1 Chronicles 12.32.
The sons of Issachar are people who know what Israel ought to do. It means they have a corporate anointing to solve corporate problems. They can discern what must be done per time. The plants know what to do per season. There are fruits that will never grow in summer, no matter what you do with them. There are some that will never grow in springs. Vegetations know their time and seasons. The ants, as tiny, understand the concept of times and seasons. They hunt for their food in spring and summer to save for the rainy days.
Knowing what to do at each time gives us the edge in life. The main challenge of many people today is they don’t know what to do. Many have reached a point of not knowing what to do in their career, marriage, ministry, relationships, health etc. It takes those who have the understanding of times to know what to do. Men of Issachar took time to study times and documented seasons out of time. And the Bible acknowledged that they were accurate.
Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding. Daniel 2.20,21
It is good to understand in a scriptural and godly way to understand time and seasons. But the best antidote is to pray in season and out of season without fainting. Also, to preach the word, in season and out of season.
Daniel said God in His sovereign power can change the times and the seasons. Yet, God wants us to have an understanding of times and seasons as we walk with Him. If someone misses their season it takes grace to have another opportunity, if it ever comes again. Some don’t realise their times and seasons until it has passed. Some fall for the trap of the enemy to miss their times and seasons. Some are stark illiterates when it comes to the concept of times and seasons.
Prayer is key to understanding times and seasons. Prayer is key to generating grace to have another chance. Prayer is key to reversing times and seasons in our lives. As spiritually discerning believers God wants us to have an understanding of this concept. And it will help us to connect and make sense of the dealings of God in our lives
