And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.” Genesis 1.14.
In most parts of the world we have the winter, spring, summer, autumn. Even in sub Sahara Africa where it’s mainly rainy and dry season, we still have the difference in seasons. As each season stands for change and transition so also we have seasons in our personal lives. Each season represents change and transition also.
Just as seasons come with benefits and challenges, the seasons of life come with different challenges and benefits. At a point a little child will only think of food, sleep and playing. However a child of 6 -10yrs starts to gradually understand that there is a responsibility to read and do well at school. By the time an adult is in early twenties and graduates from the Uni, then the responsibility of fending for your self, paying your own bills suddenly dawns on you.
By the time you are married and you have babies, a percentage of your income goes towards taking care of your family and perhaps your parents. With children growing up, it comes with different challenges and responsibilities. But a stage comes when the children eventually leave home and it’s just you and your spouse again. You then have more time on your hands to do personal things.
A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing. Ecclesiastes 3.4,5.
As each season brings change, the same way our lives are not designed to go in a straight, unbroken line. As the trajectory of life changes so does our experience. There will be blessings, there will be some disappointments, there will be laughter and occasionally some sadness. There is a time to join or be part of, there is a time to depart. And we must recognise these seasons so we are not fighting the plans of God.
There will be times of victory but there will also be the occasional seemingly defeat. As believers every setback is not a defeat really because you can turn it around into victory. Sometimes, it may seem we lost a battle, but we can ultimately go back with the lesson learnt in the next battle and eventually win the war.
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 130.5.
The only permanent thing in life is change. The great lesson to learn from the reality of change in life is that no condition is permanent. If things are tough for you at the moment, rest assured that change will happen to that season of your life. In the same vein, if things are sweet and rosy, be aware that it cannot continue that way forever.
However, we have a responsibility to either change, sustain or prolong season in our lives. Prayer changes all things including bad season, prayer sustains good season, and prayer prolongs good seasons.
God warned and taught Joshua the secret of success, not just success but a good success.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” Joshua 1.8
Praying and studying God’s word to seek the mind of God can help to sustain a good and lasting season.
May you begin to experience change and transition from a bad season to a good season. May you have and experience a good and lasting season
