J - Praise International FAITH COMMUNITY OUTREACH OFFICER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible To: The trustees of J-Praise International.
Responsible For: Central management and coordination of J – Praise international
Allowances: Negotiable
Part-time: 20 hours per week (with scope to increase hours if necessary)
Permanent: Fixed Term of 2 years

Overall responsibility of the job:

Engages with the migrant community group to integrate them into the faith community. Identifies community issues and needs through engagement. Liaises between the church and community groups for spiritual support.

Specific responsibilities:

  • To serve the needs of the Nigerian community especially Eastern Nigerian community group through the development of existing and emerging projects that will be integral to the longer-term operational development of the JPIC church.
  • Reporting to Trustees
  • Work directly with the senior minister and administrator
  • Report to the charity’s trustees bi-annually or at such special meetings as the trustees may call

JPIC international compliance

  • Comply with the ethos and terms of the Church, including, but not limited to, standard operating procedures, Health & Safety, GPDR Compliance, Safeguarding Training etc
  • Be the initial point of contact for enquiries, responding on behalf of the church with assistance from the Administrator and their team.

Public Relations

  • Prepare and issue newsletters to maintain engagement of supporters and partners
  • Issue press releases as appropriate and respond to local press enquiries

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience: People management

Experience of working or volunteering in an organisation that deploys volunteers.

A sound understanding of, and experience of engagement with, churches and Christians of different denominations

Personal Attributes

  • Honesty and integrity
  • Passionate about tackling poverty
  • A good sense of humour

Other Requirements

  • Driver with a clean/international driver’s license.

Training Provided

  • Induction training

Key Skills

Ability to manage and monitor the development of a project

Good oral communication and confident public speaking


Confident user of email, document and spreadsheet applications, and internet ability to work independently and unsupervised


Fluency in Nigerian languages, particularly Igbo.
 
Understanding of the Igbo culture.

 

Numerate and comfortable interpreting  statistical and financial data


Empathy and ability to work with people from disadvantaged, marginalised, or socially excluded backgrounds
